Marshalltown Murals

The Marshalltown Mural Program provides an avenue for our community to make Marshalltown THE place to live, work, learn and play, as well as an opportunity to enhance quality of life and support economic development. The mural program creates an opportunity for an increased focus on quality of life, community pride, beautification and creative placemaking.

Orpheum Theater - 'Perspective'
by Florida artist, Jason Tetlak (Sept 2022)

Mural Title: Perspective
‘Perspective’ focuses on using many faces with bright, bold colors to represent our diverse community and to symbolize unity. The hexagon pattern in the background is meant to convey the idea of people being interconnected, and the dotted lines connecting different eye shapes is meant to show the importance of seeing the world from different points of view. The waves in the bottom are meant to represent the Iowa river, and they flow from a rainbow of hearts meant to symbolize the inclusivity and welcoming of different cultures. Also, in the bottom corner is a tree to represent the growth and resiliency of our community.

Memorial Mural at the Graffiti Wall
by local artist Benny Fernandez, (Nov 2022)

It is with a very heavy heart we share the final artwork at the Marshalltown Skatepark Graffiti Wall by local artist, Benny Fernandez, to honor Yanitza, Linette, Isacc and Adrian. Benny did an outstanding job on this very special piece. Our hope is the piece can continue to unify our community and provide a safe place for our community to grieve and comfort one another. As you can see, many have already begun writing on the wall. Please join us by writing on the blank space around the artwork and on the back of the wall to share memories, words of encouragement and support (markers have been placed around the wall).
