Romeo & Juliet
Friday, April 25
In this critically-acclaimed ninety-minute nince-actor production with a pulsing rock incidental score, Theatreworks takes Shakespeare's language to the streets of a futuristic crumbling urban wasteland called Verona. The star-crossed lovers of two warring clans secretly dare to love. Although the Capulets and Montagues suffer the loss of their children, they realize that their hatred can only lead to tragedy, and they vow a new course of understanding and peace.
Romeo & Juliet is brought to us by the Gallagher-Bluedorn Center for the Performing Arts – University of Northern Iowa.

Cyro Baptista
April 29 – May 1
Cyro Baptista is a dazzling percussionist with a wide-eyed approach to a planet full of music. With Beat the Donkey he has put together what the New York Times calls “an assemblage of musicians and dancers in outrageous costumes, banging on drums for all they’re worth . . . It makes a ruckus, and it’s wild, vivid entertainment.” Don’t miss the Brazilian flavor seasoned with a world of musical ingredients.
Cyro Baptista is brought to Marshalltown by the Hancher Auditorium – University of Iowa “Spot” Program.

Rubberbandance Group
May 29 – 31
Victor Quijada danced on the street and in clubs growing up in Los Angeles with a style that earned him the nickname “Rubberband.” He discovered ballet and modern dance in high school, eventually finding himself in Twyla Tharp’s company and then in Les Grands Ballets Canadiens Montréal. He’s taken hip hop, modern and ballet influences and created an ensemble with moves like no other dance company. The work is electric and, yes, elastic.
