Artists

Hardworking artists populate Marshall County.  While pursuing their artistic endeavors they add a flair to the community.  The Alliance is dedicated to supporting existing artists and crafts people and welcoming new residents to the area.

Nancy Adams, Assemblages & Photography
Melbourne, IA 50162
641-482-3557

As a child, Nancy was enthralled with creating environments for dolls and pets, and always loved the school ‘shadow box’ projects.  “I’ve been a lifelong student of art and psychology and as a young adult I found a way to combine these passions through assemblages.”  Also delving into photography, Nancy recently had an exhibit at the Marshalltown Community College’s Ray Frederick Gallery.  Nancy believes that Marshall County is in the midst of a Renaissance, and that art is leading the way.  She will continue to champion non-traditional artistic media.  Nancy offers workshops, exhibits at local and regional juried shows, and is available for commission pieces.  Nancy adds, “Like most living things, I’m a work in progress and so is my work!”

John obtained an MA in piano performance from the University of Iowa in 1967.  He came to Le Grand, a bedroom community six miles east of Marshalltown, where he taught instrumental music and maintained a piano studio at home playing on and teaching on two Steinways, a model B and a restored model R.  He has played organ at several area churches and is currently pianist/organist at Hope United Methodist Church where he produces a monthly Arts Evening showcasing the amazing talents of area and national musicians. Since retirement from school teaching (he still teaches piano at home) he has been marketing pottery he makes in a large studio he maintains at his home.  The unique pottery utilizes botanics in a process creating fossil-type impressions in the finished ware.  He displays in juried art fairs throughout the midwest during the summers and has work at the Perfect Setting Gallery in Marshalltown and the Octagon Gallery in Ames.

Pam Muench, Visual Artist
PO Box 183
State Center, IA 50247

After following alternative career paths, she received a Bachelor’s in Fine Art at Iowa State and later received a Master’s in Art & Design with an emphasis in K-12 teaching certification. She is now in her 7th year of teaching and currently teaches 5th and 6th grade art at Lenihan Intermediate School in Marshalltown. She finds this age group exciting and is happy to have hour classes with her kids. With this extra ten minutes of class time at the intermediate level, students have time to focus on their creative endeavors and gain a deeper understanding of art concepts. Aside from developing curriculum for her classes, she focuses on her own artistic development. Pam is creating a collection of her own artwork and developing her own creativity through drawing and painting. She was an artist featured during the Lincoln Highway Studio Tour in October. A major goal for her is to produce more artwork in 2007.
